Welcome to Sakuraco – Message from the Founder, Ayumi Chikamoto

Ayumi Chikamoto

Hello there. I’m Ayumi, founder of TokyoTreat, YumeTwins, and nomakenolife.

I’m proud to announce the newest addition to our lineup: Sakuraco.

The Sakuraco experience will be something completely new compared to our other boxes. It’ll provide customers with the chance to taste a more traditional side of Japanese sweets, teas, snacks & more.

First of all, I wanted to take a moment to thank all of you. Whether you’re currently subscribed to one of our other brands, or were in the past. Or if you’re a part of our community, on our forums or Social Media. Or those of you meeting us for the first time (welcome!).

It’s thanks to all of you that we are able to carry on. 2020 was a difficult year for all of us, but through your kind support and words of encouragement we not only made it through, but were able to grow and thrive. Our ultimate driver and inspiration for launching Sakuraco is you. And I am so incredibly grateful.

Why are we launching a new service?

Since 2015, we’ve loved sharing the newest and most delicious limited edition snacks Japan has to offer through TokyoTreat. We love (and will continue to) surprising you, showing you all the coolest snacks every month, and enjoying them along with you.

But that is only one side of Japan. Japanese culture is so rich and varied, it’s hard to put it all in one box. And during this period of uncertainty, we know it is not possible for many of you to come to Japan and experience all Japan has to offer. So we wanted to bring it to you!

Sakuraco hopes to represent Japan through authentic Japanese snacks and to provide the afternoon tea experience that is so ingrained into Japanese culture. Afternoon tea in Japan is almost a ritual, bringing people together and giving them time to relax over perfectly paired sweets and tea. Sakuraco aims to curate that afternoon tea experience for you.

We’re excited to introduce you to new flavors while we explore Japan together.

So how is Sakuraco different to TokyoTreat?

SakuracoTokyoTreat
Snacks sourced from local makers you won’t find outside Japan. The newest + coolest snacks you won’t find outside Japan!
Refined and well balanced Japanese flavors to match the season.Limited edition, Japan exclusive awesome flavors you never knew existed!
Great for a relaxing moment or sharing with friends over tea.Great for watching anime or sharing while having fun with friends!

What does Sakuraco offer?

We hand-select a wide variety of delicious Japanese cakes, sweets, teas and more featuring authentically Japanese flavors, such as matcha or sakura. These items can be enjoyed individually or with different combinations for a unique culinary experience.

We’re also proud to highlight snacks and items that we were previously unable to share, such as yokan (Japanese jelly) as well as Japanese home goods and accessories with traditional designs.

For Sakuraco, we work with local makers who you won’t find outside of Japan and highlight their delicious work. Japanese culture is about striving for perfection and we want to connect you with makers who are masters of their craft, sharing their stories along the way.

Beyond the Box

As with TokyoTreat, YumeTwins, and nomakenolife, the Sakuraco family will be at the heart of the Sakuraco experience. We look forward to seeing the community grow via our forum as well as our Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. We’ll be hosting competitions, sharing interesting stories from Japan and so much more. We hope you’ll join us too.

And as always, our lovely support team are at the ready. If ever you have any trouble, please feel free to reach out to them here.

Over the past year, we have put our heart and soul into preparing Sakuraco. The team and I have struggled, spent a lot of late nights, and had to learn a lot. But we couldn’t be prouder of the final product. We’re sure this past year was tough for you as well. But we hope Sakuraco will bring you a much needed moment of indulgence and discovery that you’ll look forward to through the coming months and years.

We hope you’ll enjoy your Sakuraco box as much as we have enjoyed preparing it for you. Please check out what will be in this month’s box here and come along for a culinary journey with us.

Love,

Ayumi Chikamoto

Hi Ayumi, I want to thank you and your team for all that you’ve continued to do for us especially over the last year! I have enjoyed both YumeTwins and TokyoTreat boxes and stopped just before Christmas as I was concerned about the new shipping taxes for parcels coming to the UK. I was so excited to see the message to watch out for Sakuraco! Everyone was so excited on the Forum and I couldn’t be happier with this new box that you have put together. It is the perfect way to learn and enjoy in yet another way. I can’t wait to subscribing in February. Congratulations on coming up with a way to escape what’s going on around us at present and giving yourself some me time in a special way.
Many thanks
From Vicky 😊

This box sounds more like me . I don’t have kids so the other boxes weren’t as exciting as far as what I’m looking for . I’d try this one and see what I think. ♥️🙏♥️ Bring on a grown up box … I’m not having to hide
Went do we start ?

Can’t wait to get my first box, I’ve had the chance to try some traditional Japanese treats before but the options are limited. I also want to thank you for creating such a box as they’re not easy to find. I’ very excited to try the different treats and as someone who also loves Japanese teas as well, a box like this is perfect.

I’ve been subscribed to, I think, all of the TokyoTreat family of boxes for almost 2 years now, I think, and honestly, I think I love Sakuraco best of all. Admittedly, there are some misses in the boxes so far, but that’s to be expected. You can’t please everyone, and while I am definitely not a fan of matcha/ green tea (sadly, I have yet to find any type of tea I like, so it’s not just matcha), there have been other things in the boxes that I honestly would buy by the crate if I could. Sakura madelines? Yes please! Peach castella cake? Oh my gosh yes… (that was my favorite, to be honest)

I absolutely adore that I get to learn about the regions and the foods, as well as the producers, and the booklets and boxes themselves are so elegant! Even my dad, who isn’t a fan of subscription boxes at all, likes to take a peek at what’s in them, and really loves the design of the boxes themselves. As someone with sakura as my favorite flower, I couldn’t be happier that I get to have such pretty boxes I can reuse to organise my desk with!

All in all, I am so thrilled that I pounced the first day I found out about the new box and Ayumi, I have to say, you’ve really done it again! Yet another box that’s an absolute hit ^_^ My only suggestion would be if there was a way to purchase the items from the boxes as well, and that’s totally not because I’d have a cupboard reserved solely for the madelines and castella. Really it’s not….
