INSIDE YOUR SAKURACO BOX
Japan has a long and delicious history of crafting candy. Perhaps the most iconic is Konpeito. Konpeito is a Japanese candy made in the shape of small stars with a wide range of vibrant colors. Alongside simple hard candies and gummies, konpeito proves to be one of the most addictive candies for both children and adults alike, thanks to its subtle sweetness.
TRIVIA
Where did konpeito originally come from?
These hard wagashi candies are meticulously crafted from layers of colored sheets. Artisans intricately layer the candy sheets together and then cut them to reveal the face of Kintaro, a Japanese folk tale hero. Due to their popularity, different pop culture characters and icons, including cartoon characters, flowers, and fruits, can be found on Kintaro candy today.
Konpeito is a small, delightful Japanese candy. First introduced in the Kyushu region of Japan from Portugal, these candies have become synonymous with cute decorations to accompany Hinamatsuri Dolls during the Doll’s Festival in March. Unlike typical hard candies, Konpeito offers a delicate crunch that melts in your mouth. Its vibrant colors, including white, pink, yellow, and green, are complemented by its subtle flavors.
Japanese hard candies are popular with people of all ages. They offer a burst of sweetness and flavors. Crafted with meticulous attention to detail, they come in various flavors, such as citrus, mint, and Japanese fruits. These candies, often individually wrapped and in a snack box, are cherished for their enduring taste and nostalgic charm.
Gummy, a Japanese candy, was first introduced to Japan in 1980 from Germany. Since then, gummy candies in Japan have been produced to meet Japanese tastes and are often compared to their real fruit counterparts for their near-natural flavors, aroma, and coloring. Gummy candies are as popular among adults as children, with various types created to help improve concentration and reduce stress.
